Science-Backed & Medically Informed

Our estimates are informed by published veterinary life-stage resources, including American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) canine guidance and feline life-stage guidance from the Feline Veterinary Medical Association (formerly AAFP). For dogs, expected adult size is part of the model because smaller and larger dogs can move through life stages at different rates. For cats, the estimate follows the typical feline life-stage pattern rather than applying a dog-size adjustment.

Age conversion is inherently approximate. Breed, genetics, health, activity, environment, and individual development all matter, so a calculator cannot capture every pet's experience. We review the wording and sources as the project evolves and aim to keep the experience useful without overstating precision.
